2019 was characterised by the signing of a number of important partnership deals. NV Studios signed an agreement with a high-profile Australian production & development company Roadshow Rough Diamond, a subsidiary of Village Road Show, to develop drama series Molly’s Vice. The series is inspired by the actual life of convicted MDMA manufacturer Steve Spaliviero, from his autobiography, Narco X. A young Australian auto mechanic finds wealth, love and adventure as a high-flying career criminal in Los Angeles, until he is forced to manufacture massive quantities of MDMA in order to avoid prison and stay alive – unwittingly kick-starting a hair-raising, heart wrenching, coming-of-age adventure as an unlikely career criminal.
We also joined forces with international management, branding, and production company Monami Entertainment to co-produce a slate of unscripted shows and provide production services to their massively-successful shows. Monami Entertainment is a leading lifestyle and entertainment company with a specialty in talent management and cross-platform brand development. Founded by powerhouse Mona Scott-Young, sister companies Monami Entertainment and Monami Productions, works across the entertainment business, in music, television, publishing, food & beverage and more. The company originated the hugely-successful Love & Hip Hop franchise for VH1, as well as a host of shows including The Real Atlanta, This Is Hot 97 and Money. Power. Respect. for TV One, Bravo, History Channel and WE tv. The company’s founder, Mona Scott-Young, has been honoured as ASCAP’s ‘Woman Behind the Music, named as ‘Marketer of the Year’ by Ad Age and received a ‘Reality TV Royalty’ award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
In a concerted effort to prioritize the international marketplace, NV Studios partnered veteran executive producer Rob Shaftel’s Hit + Run to co-develop and produce a slate of unscripted series under the new joint venture Makeshift Entertainment. The partnership will create a pipeline to the global marketplace, allowing both companies to capitalize on their joint distribution and creative expertise. Shaftel and NV Studios CEO Damien Brown will serve as Executive Producers on all series.
Shaftel has had international success with new models and production, having already executive produced the premium sports documentary series The Story of Rugby, funded by global logistics giant DHL.
NV Studios also joined forces with UnLtd Productions to bring international food documentary series From Scratch, to the screen. Actor and host David Moscow (Big, Newsies, Honey) returns to his roots – linked to a childhood spent foraging for food in the American North-West with his family – to explore where our food comes from. Seeking out a connection between the food we consume and its source – in fields, not on supermarket shelves – Moscow attempts to recreate internationally-renowned chefs’ dishes by hunting, gathering, foraging and growing his own ingredients on a global search. From Scratch will be broadcast on FYI in North America, in the first quarter of 2020.
