NV Studios’ Scripted Series Slate Takes Shape

NV Studios has greenlit development on two compelling international scripted series, both based on international best-selling novels.

Inspired by true events and based on the novel Flight to Destiny by Sarah Byrn Rickman, American Valkyries tells the story of the women who created a national controversy by flying military aircraft for the U.S. Army Air Force as part of the WASP (Women’s Airforce Service Pilots) and WAFS (Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron).

Both programs recruited young women in their late teens and early twenties from various backgrounds. However, since they all needed to have prior flying experience, many of them came from wealthier families. As the need for more pilots grew, the level of experience required was decreased to allow for less privileged women to join.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, the series follows four fictional women as they struggle to overcome misogyny, political power-plays, and the ambiguity of their roles in a new, modern society – a full 25 years before the sexual revolution. Each episode follows a historic timeline, beginning with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and concluding with the official disbandment of the WASP program in 1944.

American Valkyries is created by Guershon Moreno & Dave Strauss.

“God created Man. Man Created Ecstasy. I made it for the CIA”. Molly’s Vice is inspired by the actual life of convicted MDMA manufacturer Steve Spaliviero, from his autobiography, Narco X.

A mild-mannered Australian auto mechanic, comes to make it in 80s LA, beginning a hair-raising, heart wrenching, coming-of-age adventure as an unlikely career criminal.

As a high-octane crime procedural, Molly’s Vice involves macabre, richly stylised, set pieces. The occasional extreme violence is never glossed over. The characters experience the absurdity of and gallows humour in their extreme predicaments. Breaking Bad is Mr Chips into Scarface, and Molly’s Vice is Aussie rube into CIA asset.

Both productions are currently in development with international partners and will be overseen by NV Studios CEO Damien Brown from the company’s new office in Los Angeles.
